Mentorship Program (BUMP)
College is a whole new chapter of life and Cal is a big campus. A group of upperclassmen students from Klesis who have been through the journey of freshman year and are here to help you find your way! BUMP Upperclassmen are here to help in all aspects of your college career, from Q&A’s to seminars to career advice.
What does BUMP Connection look like?
You and your upperclassman will meet at least once a month to catch up, navigate whatever comes up in life whether it's roommate issues or finding a student job.
Do you offer anything else through BUMP Connection?
We also offer seminars for career advice from employees at top Bay Area companies like Google and Salesforce and host weekly study sessions to get you jump started in your academic career.

CHARLES | Class of 2021, EECS
I'm pretty involved in research on campus, but you can also find me going on runs or reading a good book. I've really enjoyed being able to meet people at Cal who are different from me and have different perspectives about life! I'll really remember the times spent listening to other people's stories and the cool conversations I've had.
ABBY | Class of 2021, Microbial Biology
I'm involved in retinal degeneration research, but outside of school I like to spend time walking around campus. I grew up in Minnesota, so I have a deep appreciation for all things nature - trees, water, plants, or even bugs! I love how people are passionate about all sorts of different things here. The food and boba is a plus!
MERRYLE | Class of 2021, Computer Science
Hi, I'm a CS major at Cal! Besides my school work, I like lifting, swimming, and playing basketball with my friends. I also really like eating at the dining halls.
LILY | Class of 2022, Math and CS
I love playing music and talking about random silly things with a straight face. You can usually find me eating ramen on the 9th floor of Evans, playing bells in the Campanile, or studying with friends on campus. Berkeley has been incredibly exciting for me because of the many unique people I got to know!
Emma Donnelly | Class of 2021, English and Public Policy Minor
Hello! I’m an English Major am public policy minor!
On campus I am involved in Berkeley's Pre-law fraternity, Phi Alpha Delta, and spend a lot of my time working in the Transfer Center, helping to plan events for all of Cal’s transfer students!
I love spending time reading or hanging out with friends! I also like exploring new places such as food stops, hiking trails or just driving around with not set destination!
JOHN | Class of 2021, Legal Studies
Hi! I'm in Cal's Army ROTC program, so after I graduate, I'll be commissioning as an officer in the U.S. Army. I enjoy going on hikes, working out, and reading. One thing I love about Berkeley is that there's a lot of things to do - from hiking in the Berkeley Hills and having a picnic to taking the BART and going to the City.
SARAH | Class of 2022, Public Health
I'm on the pre-med track, and so far at Berkeley I've volunteered as an EMT and done research on diabetes in underserved communities. I love playing volleyball and running! My favorite thing about Cal is how willing people are to take the time to talk to you and help answer your questions.
JOY | Class of 2021, Bioengineering
Hey! My name is Joy, and I’m a junior studying Bioengineering, hoping to do research in industry postgrad. Beyond BioE, I like to dance, eat good food, talk about personality types, and watch thriller movies. Feel free to talk to me about anything; I love to discuss, and I have a myriad of interests :)

I've taken many of the general engineering classes at Cal and know a lot of other engineering students, so if you're curious about which classes to take as an engineering major during your freshman year, I might be able to help! I'm looking forward to seeing you at Cal!

I enjoy coding, physics, and art, and I love spending time with friends, singing, playing volleyball, studying, and making boba runs 24/7! I love that there are boba shops on every corner. I can't wait to meet you, and I hope we can grab boba and talk about the great aspects of college life!

I'm Shua! During my time at Cal, you'll probably find me going on a medical mission trip, teaching kids in classrooms, looking at cells in the lab, or playing music with friends. I love Berkeley because of the many opportunities I've had to form meaningful relationships!

Although I think of myself as an introvert normally, this quarantine once again reminds me that social interactions are necessary for human life. Oh by the way, I am Toby, a graduating third year CS major. I am also a TA for CS 161, and I am happy to chat about all things CS.
AMANDA | Class of 2021, Molecular Environmental Biology
Hi! I love art, music, and writing. Some of my favorites (and in no particular order): bullet journaling, painting, attending post-rock concerts, and writing a blog. On campus, I'm passionate about biochemical research and advocating with the homeless community. Coming from Arizona's typical 110 heat, I love Berkeley's weather and its libraries/cafes!
ISAAC | Class of 2021, Economics
Hi! I'm a junior transfer going into my senior year here at Cal and I study Economics and I am also a research assistant for the Econ department. Outside of school I enjoy hiking, lifting, and listening to music. I would say the best thing to do around Berkeley is to explore it. There are many cool hikes, stores, and sights to see. I hope we can one day see stuff together!

At Cal, I'm involved in developmental biology research and teaching lab classes, but outside of school I enjoy going on runs, listening to music, playing video games, and spending time outdoors.
