The Commandments and the Recreational Sports Facility

This past Friday, Homegroup 2 took cover from the chilly Berkeley weather at Klesis House, thanks to the hospitality of the house residents. We had the privilege of having Suzanne with us, teaching on the Exodus passage of the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20). What do these ancient laws that came from a mountain have to do with college life in the United States in the 21st century? By taking a closer look at the laws, we gained valuable insights on how they called the Jews of the time to relate to God and each other, in that order. A clear distinction between the first and second half of the commandments disproved many of our misconceptions that Moses simply brought down a archaic and strange piece of rock from the top of the mountain. Ultimately, the most important commandments were about relating to God. Suzanne also had us all hone in on Verse 2 of the chapter, and how God first addressed His own credentials and relationship with the Jews before giving Moses the commandments. As their leader through the worst of times, God knows best for their lives.

Afterwards, we met up with the other homegroups at the Recreational Sports Facility for an awesome time of signature crazy Klesis sports, like handball and Braveheart. Separated into teams by class, we reunited with our friends from other homegroups for an ultimte Klesis showdown. There were tough battles and some battle scars left behind, including an epic relay race to top it all off, but at the end of the day, the seniors took home the title. Homegroup 2 was well represented among the strong finishers, with the juniors surprisingly finishing in second and one of the freshmen teams finishing in third.
