Sharing from the WORD

"Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins." Hebrews 9:22 Well, that's morbid. At least, that was my initial thought. I wondered why God couldn't just have set the price of forgiveness to something less gory.

However, upon further reflection, I realized that it was completely logical for Jesus to shed his blood to pay for our sins. As sinners, the Bible tells us that we are "dead" in our trespasses, while Jesus was perfectly holy. In order for us to live, someone or something must take our place and die. If another sinner, who is also dead in his/her trespasses, offered to take our place, then that wouldn't make sense. It would just be trading one dead person for another.

This is why we need Jesus; we need someone perfectly holy to trade spots with us and die on our behalf. This is the only way that we can live. What at first seemed gory and unnecessarily painful is perfectly logical when remembering our identity as sinners, dead in our trespasses, and God's identity, holy and loving.

Much love from your sister in Christ,
