Sharing from the WORD
"The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers" 1 Peter 4:7 The part that stood out to me about this verse was the explanation included within it. It is not telling us to be self-controlled and sober-minded because God is going to judge us based on our performance; it is solely for the sake of our prayers.
The quality of our prayers is important because praying is one of the primary ways through which we can build our relationship with God. Therefore, it makes sense that we would avoid things that can lower the quality of our prayers.
Another reason why we are called to be self-controlled and sober-minded is so that we won't forget the urgency of our situation. "The end of all things is at hand", and unfortunately, we don't have an eternity here on earth to work on perfecting our relationship with God. Because we have limited time, we need to keep our thinking clear in order to prioritize our relationship with God.
