The Return of the Prodigal Son, Pt. 2

This past week Kle2 gathered for homegroup time in Alameda! We had a scrumptious dinner together and then headed to a nearby park to play some sports before Bible study. At the park we played a game of "Ultimate ultimate" together -- basically playing ultimate frisbee with both a frisbee and a volleyball! The team that was wearing... blue jeans... won. Yeah, exciting way of dividing teams, I know ! Anyway, after the fun at the park, we came back inside to listen to Chapter 2 of Henri Nouwen's "Return of the Prodigal Son", his book about his reflections on the Luke 15 parable and the Rembrandt painting based on it. Chapter 2 details his reflections on the younger son in the story, who demanded his inheritance from his father and squandered his wealth in the far country. Reflecting on the story of the younger son, Nouwen realizes that every time he tries to find love outside the Father's house is when he leaves home and strays into the far country -- and through our discussions we realized that we can all relate to the story of the younger son as well!

After reading about and discussing the younger son, we played a quick game of "giant scrabble" where we wrote scrabble letters on pieces of 8 1/2" by 11" pieces of paper and worked in teams to get the most points! Proud to say that the NorCal team won :)

Hope you can join us next time!
